Ginger essential oil is derived from the fresh rhizome of the ginger plant—The subterranean stalk of a plant that shoots out the root system. A featured ingredient in many Asian dishes, Ginger has a hot, fragrant flavour when used as a kitchen spice. In Western tradition, Ginger is most often used in sweets— gingerbread and ginger snaps being two examples. Internal use of Ginger is best known as a digestive aid and for helping to ease occasional indigestion and nausea. Ginger essential oil can also be applied topically or inhaled for the soothing aroma. Ginger oil which is basically extracted from the ginger is popularly known due to its therapeutic properties. It helps in the treatment of various other ailments.

Extraction Method:
Steam distillation process is adopted for the extraction of this essential oil from the ginger root which is the rhizome of the plant zingiber officinal and it belongs to the family of Zingiberaceae. The pure oil thus obtained has spicy and aromatic smell.
Uses:
1. This warming essential oil is often used for digestive problems, as well as nausea - be that morning sickness or travel upset. It is also of value when treating colds and the flu and especially for catarrhal lung conditions and rheumatic pain.
2. It can also be used on the skin to help clear bruises. Asian medicine uses Ginger oil for stomach problems such as stomach-ache, diarrhea and nausea. The Chinese also use it to boost the heart and to help with mucus and phlegm.
DIY (do it yourself):
To avert or treat topical infections, dilute 1-3 drops of Ginger Essential Oil in 1 tsp. of Coconut Oil – or any other carrier oil of personal preference – and gently massage it into the affected area.
Blends Well With: Cedarwood, Cinnamon, Orange, Rose, Sandalwood, Vetiver, Ylang ylang, Petitgrain, Lemon, Grapefruit, Tangerine, Frankincense.
Cautions:
Ginger oil is non-toxic and non-irritant (except when used in high concentrations) but could irritate sensitive skins and can also cause photosensitivity.
